What exactly is an eSIM and how does it work?
An eSIM is a digital SIM card built directly into your device. Instead of inserting a physical card, you buy a plan online, receive a QR code by email, and scan it to install. Your device connects automatically when you land. You can keep your physical SIM active for calls while the eSIM handles your data abroad.
How do I know if my phone supports eSIM?
Dial *#06# — if an EID number appears, your device is eSIM compatible. You can also check Settings → Mobile / Cellular → SIM for an "Add eSIM" option. Your phone must also be carrier-unlocked.
💡Most iPhones from XS (2018) onward and flagship Android devices (Samsung S20+, Google Pixel 3a+) support eSIM.
How do I purchase an eSIM plan?

Should I buy the eSIM before or after landing?
Always before. Install at home over Wi-Fi and you'll have data from the moment you land.
📅Country eSIMs can be installed up to 30 days before your trip. Validity only starts when you activate in the destination country.
Which countries are covered?

How much data do I need for my trip?

Where do I find my QR code after purchase?
It's sent to your email immediately after payment. Check inbox and spam. The email includes the QR image, the manual activation code, and installation instructions.
How do I install an eSIM on iPhone via QR code?
Wi-Fi required.
  1. Open Camera app → scan the QR code
  2. Tap the notification → install the eSIM
  3. Name it (e.g. "WellRoam Japan")
  4. Keep your regular SIM as default for calls and SMS
  5. Set the eSIM as your Mobile Data line
On arrival: Enable Data Roaming, set eSIM for data, turn off Wi-Fi to confirm.
How do I install an eSIM on iPhone manually?
  1. Settings → Mobile Service → Add eSIM
  2. Choose "Use QR Code" → "Enter Details Manually"
  3. Enter the SM-DP+ address and activation code from your email
  4. Complete setup and name your eSIM
How do I install an eSIM on Android via QR code?
  1. Settings → Connections → SIM Manager → Add eSIM
  2. Scan the QR code from your email
  3. Tap Add and wait for the eSIM to appear
  4. Set as Mobile Data SIM and enable Data Roaming
How do I install an eSIM on Android manually?
  1. Settings → SIM Manager → Add eSIM → Enter activation code
  2. Type the code exactly as shown in your email

I only have one device — how do I scan the QR?
  • iPhone iOS 17.4+: Long-press the QR image in Mail → "Add eSIM" appears
  • Android: Screenshot the QR → SIM Manager → scan from gallery
  • All devices: Use the manual activation code — no scanning needed
Do I need to configure APN settings?
No — APN settings configure automatically. After landing just ensure: Data Roaming is ON, WellRoam eSIM is your Mobile Data source, and Wi-Fi is off to verify it's working.
Can I install on a carrier-locked phone?
No. Contact your carrier to unlock your device — most do it free once your contract ends.
⚠️ Installing on a locked device will fail. Confirm your phone is unlocked before purchasing.
How do I remove an eSIM from my device?
iPhone: Settings → Mobile Service → [eSIM] → Remove Mobile Plan

Android: Settings → SIM Manager → [eSIM] → Delete
⚠️ Deletion is permanent. Only delete once your trip is fully over.

How do I check my remaining data balance?
Go to the Data Tracking page, enter your email and order number to see remaining data, validity, and eSIM status in real time.
How do I top up and add more data?
  1. Open the Data Tracking page
  2. Enter email and order number
  3. Tap "Refill" next to your active eSIM
  4. Choose amount and pay — data credited within minutes
Can I use the eSIM as a hotspot?
Yes — all WellRoam eSIMs support Personal Hotspot / tethering. Enable it from your phone settings as usual.
📶For hotspot-heavy trips, we recommend the 20 GB or Unlimited plan.
Are speeds throttled on unlimited plans?
WellRoam never throttles speeds or imposes data caps. Slow speeds are caused by local network congestion or coverage — never a WellRoam restriction.
Does the eSIM include calls or SMS?
WellRoam eSIMs are data-only. Keep your regular SIM for calls and SMS. WhatsApp, FaceTime, Telegram, and iMessage all work perfectly over data.
📱Your phone number stays the same — it's linked to your regular SIM, not the eSIM.
Can I use the eSIM in a country not on my plan?
Country plans only work in the purchased country. For multi-destination travel, choose a regional or global plan.
What happens when my plan expires?
The eSIM stops working and unused data is forfeited. Top up before expiry to extend, or purchase a new plan.
Can I use the eSIM on a cruise or at sea?
Not while at sea — cruises use satellite networks WellRoam doesn't support. Your eSIM reconnects automatically near a port with terrestrial coverage.
Can I buy now and activate later?
Yes. Country eSIMs are valid for 30 days from purchase and the countdown only starts when you activate in the destination country. Install now, activate when you land.

My eSIM is installed but won't connect — what do I do?
  1. Disable any active VPN or proxy app
  2. Toggle Airplane Mode on → wait 15 sec → off
  3. Confirm Data Roaming is ON
  4. Confirm WellRoam eSIM is selected as Mobile Data SIM
  5. Restart your device
  6. Try manually selecting the network: Settings → Mobile Network → Manual
Why won't my eSIM activate?
  • You haven't reached the destination country yet
  • Data Roaming is disabled
  • The eSIM wasn't installed correctly — reinstall from the original QR code
  • Multiple eSIMs active simultaneously — disable others temporarily
  • Network needs refresh — toggle Airplane Mode
The QR code won't scan — what are my options?
  • Make sure the QR is sharp, well-lit, and your camera lens is clean
  • Use the manual activation code from your email — no scanning needed
  • iPhone 17.4+: Long-press the QR image to install directly
  • Android: Screenshot the QR → scan from gallery in SIM Manager
How do I confirm my eSIM is active and working?
  • Settings shows the eSIM as Active
  • Signal bars display 4G / LTE / 5G
  • Mobile data works with Wi-Fi turned off
If the eSIM doesn't appear in Settings, the installation was incomplete — reinstall.
My internet speed is very slow — is something wrong?
WellRoam doesn't throttle speeds. Slow connections are caused by weak local coverage, congestion at busy venues, or an active VPN. Try disabling your VPN and moving to an open area.
I accidentally deleted my eSIM — what now?
Deleted eSIMs cannot be reinstalled on the same device. Contact contact@wellroam.com immediately with your order number — we'll assess options based on remaining plan validity.
Is it safe to use banking apps over my WellRoam eSIM?
Yes. WellRoam provides a standard mobile data connection, identical in security to any carrier. Your eSIM can't be physically stolen or cloned, making it more secure than a traditional SIM card.
Why is my eSIM not appearing in device settings?
This usually means installation was incomplete. Re-scan your QR code or re-enter the activation code from scratch with an active Wi-Fi connection. If it still doesn't appear, restart your device and try again.

Are there hidden fees?
None. The price at checkout is the final price — no activation fees, no setup charges. Any small discrepancy on your bank statement is your bank's currency conversion fee, not a WellRoam charge.
Do you offer refunds?
Yes — WellRoam offers a full money-back guarantee if the eSIM has not been activated. Contact contact@wellroam.com within 30 days of purchase. Refunds process within 5–7 business days.
What if my payment fails?
