An eSIM is a digital SIM you add to your compatible phone. It lets you use a data plan abroad without removing your usual SIM card.
You choose your destination, data and duration, then receive your eSIM by email. See how it works.
Start with your destination, then choose the amount of data in GB and the duration that suit your trip. On the plan page, check the countries covered, partner networks, 4G / 5G and hotspot conditions.
Visiting several countries? A regional plan can be handier, as long as all your countries are included. The plan helper on the product page can also estimate what you need.
Messaging, directions and checking emails usually use less data than videos, video calls and hotspot. Usage depends on your apps, their quality settings and how long you use them.
Use “Which plan do I need?” on the product page. To save data, download your maps, music and videos on Wi-Fi before you leave.
A plan in GB includes a total amount of data to use during its validity. An unlimited plan may include a daily amount of high-speed data, followed by a reduced-speed connection.
Before you buy, compare the high-speed amount, the speed after that threshold and the renewal terms shown for the offer you choose. These rules vary by plan.
Coverage depends on your plan. You’ll find the countries and partner networks on its product page, in the network information and in the eSIM details.
A national plan covers the country shown; a regional or global plan only covers the countries on its list. So a stopover in another country isn’t necessarily included. Check coverage before you order.
You get 4G / 5G depending on the offer you choose, the partner networks, your phone and the coverage where you are.
Actual speeds can vary, especially in remote areas or when a network is very busy. 5G being part of an offer doesn’t guarantee a 5G connection everywhere.
Unless the product page says otherwise, your travel eSIM provides internet only: it doesn’t add a number for regular calls and texts.
You can message and call through apps that use the internet. If you use your usual line for calls or texts abroad, your usual carrier’s rates may apply.
It needs to support eSIM and be unlocked for all carriers. Look up your exact model in our checker before you order.
Some versions of the same model have different specs. If you’re unsure, or the option to add an eSIM doesn’t appear in your settings, contact us before you buy.
On iPhone: open Settings → General → About and check the model name and number.
On Android: open Settings → About phone. Depending on the brand, the model may be listed under “Device information”.
Use that reference in the compatibility checker.
An unlocked phone can use other carriers’ services. On iPhone, go to Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock: “No SIM restrictions” means it’s unlocked.
On Android, this depends on the model. If in doubt, ask the carrier that sold you the phone. WellRoam can’t unlock it for you.
No, your usual SIM stays in your phone. You add an eSIM line for mobile data on your trip. Your contacts stay available.
Select the travel eSIM for internet and turn off data roaming on your usual line to avoid that carrier’s data charges. How many lines can be active at once depends on your phone.
Yes, you keep your account, your WhatsApp number and your chats. You don’t need to register a new number in the app: it simply uses the eSIM’s internet connection.
Your other apps stay on your phone too. Their availability and some features, such as internet calls, may depend on the rules of the country you’re visiting.
An eSIM profile is meant for one device. For several travellers, order one eSIM per compatible phone and use each person’s own QR code.
If your plan allows hotspot, one phone can share internet with a nearby laptop or tablet. The data used is counted against that phone’s plan.
Before you leave, connect your phone to Wi-Fi. Open the email with your eSIM, or find its details in data tracking.
Validity starts on activation, so plan it for shortly before you leave. See the iPhone and Android guide.
Connect to Wi-Fi, then open Settings → Mobile Data → Add eSIM → Use QR Code. Scan your code, then confirm the steps shown.
Name the line “Travel” so you can recognise it, and follow the instructions you received for activation and mobile data. The labels may vary depending on your iOS version.
Connect to Wi-Fi. The path depends on your phone:
Scan the QR code, confirm and follow the instructions you received. On other Android phones, search for “eSIM” in Settings.
Manufacturer instructions: Samsung · Google Pixel.
You can open the email on another screen to scan the QR code, or use manual entry in the Add eSIM menu.
Copy the installation details provided, including the SM-DP+ address and activation code when asked. You’ll find them in the email or in data tracking. Don’t change them.
On a compatible iPhone with iOS 17.4 or later, pressing and holding a QR code received in a supported mail app or browser may also offer to add the eSIM.
You’ll find them in your eSIM delivery email and in your eSIM details in data tracking, using your order email and order number.
Viewing them again doesn’t mean the QR code can be reused. If the eSIM is already installed, don’t delete it to reinstall it.
Check that your phone is compatible, unlocked and on a stable Wi-Fi connection. Then see whether the eSIM line has already been added in Settings.
Don’t delete a profile that’s already there. The QR code may be limited to a single installation. If the message keeps appearing, contact us with your order number, phone model and the exact error message.
Contact us before deleting your eSIM or changing phones. A QR code may only work once, and transferring depends on the profile and the device.
Deleting the eSIM doesn’t pause its validity or trigger a refund. If you’ve already deleted it, send us your order details: we’ll check the possible solutions for your plan.
Install and activate your eSIM before you leave, on Wi-Fi, following the instructions you received. Do it shortly before your trip, because your plan period starts on activation.
Once you arrive, your eSIM connects automatically to a covered partner network, using the mobile data settings in the guide.
When you activate your eSIM, not when you order it. So you can buy your plan in advance and activate it shortly before you leave.
Once activated, the chosen period runs even if you don’t use any data or temporarily turn the line off. You can check your plan’s validity in data tracking.
Yes — buying doesn’t start your plan’s validity. Keep your installation email and activate the eSIM before you leave, at the right time for your trip.
If an activation deadline is shown in the information you received, stick to it. For a trip that’s a long way off, contact us before buying so we can check the terms of the offer you choose.
Turning off the line doesn’t pause the validity. Once your eSIM is activated, the plan period keeps running, even when you’re on Wi-Fi or not using the internet.
Choose a duration that covers your trip, and avoid activating your eSIM too long before you leave.
Before you arrive in a covered country, your phone may not find the partner network yet. First check that the eSIM profile shows up in your settings and follow the instructions you received.
Don’t restart the installation or delete the line. If an error message appears, or the status doesn’t change at your destination despite checking your connection, contact our team.
The connection is automatic once the eSIM is ready and a partner network is available. Check these points in order:
Briefly turn Airplane mode on and off, or restart your phone. Don’t delete the eSIM. If the problem continues, contact us.
For your travel eSIM, follow the instructions you received and turn on its roaming when asked: that’s what gives it access to the plan’s partner networks.
Keep data roaming off on your usual SIM. Select the eSIM for mobile data and turn off automatic data switching between lines, so your usual plan isn’t used.
Yes, if hotspot is included in your offer. Check this in the eSIM details, then turn on “Personal Hotspot” or “Mobile hotspot” on your phone.
Your laptop, tablet or another device can then connect to it. Their usage comes out of your plan’s data, and any limits of the offer still apply.
Speed depends on coverage, the local network, how busy it is and the plan you chose. On an unlimited offer, speed may be reduced once the included high-speed data is used.
Check your usage and your offer’s terms. Then try a spot with better coverage and leave network selection on automatic. If it’s still slow, contact us and tell us the country and city.
Setup is usually automatic. Only change the APN if your eSIM instructions or our team ask you to. Use exactly the values provided for your plan.
Keep network selection on automatic. If there’s a problem, our team can guide you to an authorised partner network; not every network shown on screen is necessarily included.
Your plan uses the land-based mobile networks of the covered countries. It doesn’t include the carrier’s satellite, in-flight or maritime networks.
At sea or in the air, use the services available on board if you need them. On land, in port or after landing, your connection depends on a covered partner network being available.
Select your usual SIM again for mobile data. You can turn off the travel line in Settings.
If you plan to top up or reuse this eSIM, check the available options in data tracking first. Don’t delete it while you still need its profile or support.
Open data tracking and find your eSIM with your order email and order number.
There you can see your remaining data, validity and plan status. The details also give you access to the QR code and installation information.
Tracking can have an update delay caused by the partner network. Your phone’s counter may also cover a different period or add up usage across several lines.
Check that you’re looking at the right eSIM and the right period. If the gap is still large, contact us with your order and screenshots of the counters involved.
Check your eSIM in data tracking: if a top-up is offered, you can select the available option and review its terms before paying.
Top-ups aren’t available on every plan. If no option is offered, choose a new plan for your destination and follow its installation instructions.
With a GB plan, internet access stops when the data runs out or the validity ends. On an unlimited offer, the offer’s high-speed and reduced-speed rules apply throughout its validity.
Unused data doesn’t automatically roll over. Check data tracking to see if a top-up is available, or choose a new plan. Your travel plan doesn’t renew automatically.
Download maps, videos and playlists on Wi-Fi before you leave. During your trip, limit cloud backups, automatic updates and high-quality video playback on mobile data.
Your phone’s data saver mode can help. Also remember to turn off hotspot when you’re not using it.
Your eSIM is sent by email once payment is confirmed. It contains the QR code and instructions. No parcel or physical card is shipped.
Double-check your email address when you order, and keep the message to prepare for your trip.
Check your spam and promotions folders, then the email address you used to order. Also make sure you received a payment confirmation.
You can find your eSIM in data tracking. If you still can’t find it, contact us with your purchase email and your order number if you have it. Don’t reorder the same plan before we’ve checked.
The payment methods available for your order are shown at checkout. They can vary depending on your country, device or currency.
Check the total amount and currency before you confirm. The eSIM plan is prepaid: you buy the offer you chose, with no subscription or automatic renewal.
Check whether you received an order confirmation. A pending amount at your bank doesn’t always mean the payment went through.
Don’t keep retrying if a charge appears. Contact us with the email you used, the date and the amount so we can check the order. Never send your full card number or security code.
Your confirmation email contains your order number and a summary of your purchase. Keep it: you’ll need it to track your eSIM and to contact our team.
If you need an invoice or extra billing information, write to us with your order number and the billing details to use.
If you picked the wrong country, email address or phone model, contact us before activating the eSIM: we’ll check what’s possible for your order.
Promo codes are applied at checkout, according to their terms. Check that the discount shows before you confirm; a forgotten discount isn’t applied automatically after purchase.
You can ask for a refund up to 30 days after your order, as long as the eSIM hasn’t been activated.
Contact our team with your order number and the email used for the purchase. We’ll check the eSIM’s status and tell you what happens next. Simply disabling or deleting an eSIM that’s already been activated doesn’t make it eligible for this guarantee again.
If your eSIM hasn’t been activated, you can ask for a refund within 30 days of your order.
If your trip is postponed, contact us so we can check whether your offer has an activation deadline. If the eSIM is already activated, its validity keeps running: the refund guarantee for non-activated eSIMs no longer applies.
Yes — contact us so we can check your connection and plan. Our team will help you with the settings and look into it if the service isn’t working.
The 30-day refund guarantee applies to eSIMs that haven’t been activated. For a problem after activation, we need to check what’s happening before we can suggest the right solution. Don’t delete your eSIM while we’re checking.
Use our contact page or email contact@wellroam.com.
To help us help you faster, include your order number, purchase email, exact phone model, the country you’re in and the problem you’re having. A screenshot of the error message or the settings involved can help. Hide installation codes if you share a screenshot publicly.
Our team checks your order and the eSIM’s activation status, then replies by email. Keep that email thread to follow your request.
Once the refund is confirmed, how long it takes to show in your account depends on the payment provider and your bank. For a question about a request in progress, reply in the same thread and include your order number.
Try a simpler word, like “QR code”, “data” or “payment”.
Give us your order number and tell us what’s blocking you.
Our team will help you.
